Mares are placed in the pasture with a stallion in early March. We have found that pasture breeding has increased the conception rate in our mares.

![]() Careful records are kept of foaling dates, heat cycles and breeding dates. Mares are placed in a "foaling pen" two to three weeks prior to their due dates. |

After foaling, the mare & foal are moved to the "nursery pen" for 5 to 7 days to ensure that the mare and foal have bonded properly and that the foal is strong enough to be moved to the main pasture. |
